About the Artwork
In this screenprint I decided to illustrate one of the most recurring images in ancient European art: the crucifixion of Christ.
To handle such a renowned topic, I studied and focalized my attention on ancient paintings from the Flemisch-German tradition of the 1400's (Grunewald, Van Der Weyden, Van Eyck...), to better understand and represent the symbolic codes which characterize these compositions. On the other hand, the image of Christ is inspired by the crucifixions painted on wood by Cimabue and Giotto. Technically, with a calligraphy brush I created an India ink drawing which recalls orthodox and bizantine icons; the mood of the synthesis is grotesque. The composition is based on a geometric grid borrowed by graphic design, combining each element according to geometric standards. The colors I used are soft pastel tones, printed on paper similar to rice-paper, as in traditional Japanese prints.

Truly Design®
Truly Design® is an artistic collective formed by four friends who have shared since adolescence their passion for graffiti and street art. Thanks to the ecleptic approach born from observing and working on our surroundings, the group’s horizons quickly widened from sole artistic production to illustration, graphic design, logotype design, didactics and other creative applications. Truly Design’s resulting professional growth reached its turning point with the foundation of the omonymous graphic studio based in Torino. Presently, the collective works both on commissioned projects and personal artistic creations, distinguishing its work with tangible cohesiveness and live interest in exploring new expressive channels.
No matter how different our approaches and styles are, we are all held together by our openness towards the will to try out new stuff and to evolve. This allows us to develop together all of our projects, unifying our points of view, and making our different tastes collide and contaminate each other: these differences, sometimes stressed on purpose, are what really bring out the final result.
